Just curious really. I never understood it. Are they the same virus can you get oral herpes from someone with genital, or genital from someone with oral… Can you have both at the same time?

Both types of herpes come from the same herpes virus. It’s kind of rare but you can have both at the same time. But just because you have one type that doesn’t mean you automatically have the other.
Oral herpes can affect the genitals if you give some one oral sex while you have a cold sore. Usually any type of herpes that occurs on the genitals gets called genital herpes, while any type of herpes that occurs on the mouth gets called oral herpes.
Genital herpes can be passed to the mouth when you give some one oral sex while they have an out break of genital herpes. It’s not too common to get HSV2 on the mouth but it can happen.
